The New 101st Airborne Website
We’re pleased to announce today the relaunch of the 101st Airborne Division legacy website on the Squarespace platform.
For the past couple of years, we have worked hard to build a great community on Substack. However, with the ongoing issues on that platform and the need to have complete control over our website, I decided it was time to make the move. And I am glad we did!
Squarespace will give us the ability to do so much more for our Screaming Eagles enthusiasts, as well as ensure we can grow this website into the best resource center for all things 101st Airborne.
What you see today is only a small fraction of what is to come!
Gene Gilbreath, 506th PIR.
Preserving the Legacies
As always, our focus is on preserving the legacies of our heroes. Jos Groen and Ronald Stassen have spent decades collecting stories and conducting research about those who served in the 101st, and we will always ensure that those memories and stories are kept alive.
We have created a Memorial category in our Field Notes section to honor the men who died in combat or made their final jump, and in the coming weeks, we’ll be writing more content about these wonderful people.
Additionally, if you have a family member who served in the 101st Airborne during World War II and would like them to be honored here, we invite you to contact us so we can share their legacy with the world.
Upcoming Features
While preserving the legacies of our heroes is our primary mission here, it will not be enough to ensure the future survival of this esteemed project.
I envision this website as a “command post” where visitors can discover more about the history of the Screaming Eagles, participate in ongoing discussions, connect with other enthusiasts, find professional battlefield guides, and view historic photos that have never been seen before.
We will also offer a members-only section, granting you access to exclusive content and benefits.
By offering more features and keeping people engaged, we can make this the headquarters for the 101st Airborne in World War II, and perhaps someday, include those who fought or served beyond that time.
An Online Store
You may have noticed the launch of our new online store, featuring a selection of products already on display, with many more to come in the next few weeks.
We struggled with the idea of selling 101st Airborne merchandise and war memorabilia because our goal wasn’t to become commercialized. However, with the ongoing expenses involved in running this website and the long hours we dedicate to creating content, we must generate revenue to sustain ourselves.
Military enthusiasts will always purchase airborne-related products, so why not get them from us? This seemed like a logical reason to offer Screaming Eagles gifts and other historical items.
We have partnered with a fulfillment company to create and ship our merchandise, both in the United States and the European Union. Since all of our products are made on demand, we’re able to avoid unnecessary waste and expenses by doing it this way.
Furthermore, Jos and I would also like to allocate a portion of our sales to fund projects that support our military veterans.
When you shop with us, it’s a win-win!
The Reenactor Community
Some of the greatest champions for preserving the history of World War II and the 101st Airborne are the incredible reenactors. These dedicated individuals invest their time and money to honor those who fought and died in the pursuit of freedom for all.
As we move forward, we hope to include more of these individuals and their organizations in our mission by raising awareness about their work.
We appreciate your support!
So much more could be said about the future and our passion for preserving the legacies of our Screaming Eagles, but I would like to conclude by thanking you.
Nothing brings us more joy than finding people like you — enthusiasts who share our desire to learn, read, and participate in the greater story. We sincerely appreciate your involvement and support. It keeps the memories alive.
The 101st Airborne Division legacy website is not something I expected to happen, nor was it something I was looking to do, but it has been an honor to work on. My gratitude for the men and women who served to protect our freedoms will never cease, and this is just one way to show that appreciation.
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
