First Lieutenant Francis A. Canham

Today we honor and remember 1LT Francis Canham of the 101st Airborne Division who was killed in The Battle of the Bulge.

First Lieutenant Francis A. Canham (born: January 22, 1921), Baker Battery, 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion, was killed in action at Bastogne on December 20, 1944.

Lieutenant Canham, a field observer, had chosen a stone barn on the northeastern outskirts of Noville from which he could direct artillery fire on the advancing enemy. While observing the battle from an open window on the second floor of the barn, he was killed in action when a tank shell hit the wall just alongside the window.

LT Canham rests eternally at the American War Cemetery Luxembourg, at Plot H, Row 12, Grave 45.

Another Screaming Eagle had soared to the ultimate height. 🦅
