PFC William Joseph Anderson
Today we honor and remember PFC William Joseph Anderson of the 101st Airborne Division, who was killed in The Battle of the Bulge
January 11, 1945, was a day of breathing space for the WWII Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division. After two days of advance and partly falling back, thus giving up some gained ground, the frontline positions of the 101st remained stable.
The 3rd Battalion, 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, held a sector on down to the Bastogne-Houffalize highway five hundred yards south of Foy. On January 11, PFC William Joseph Anderson of Baker Company, 3rd Battalion, 327th GIR, was killed in action. None of the available documents described the circumstances of his death.
Another Screaming Eagle had soared to the ultimate height. 🦅
Born in Missouri Valley, Harrison County, Iowa, on June 3, 1921, PFC Anderson died at the age of 23 on January 11, 1945. He left behind his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Anderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a fiancé, Theresa Mass.
PFC William Anderson was first buried in the Temporary American Military Cemetery Grand Failly, France, at Section F, Row 8, Grave 179. He now rests eternally at the American War Cemetery Luxembourg, at Plot E, Row 8, Grave 70. PFC Anderson was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart Medal.
